We are searching for a Manager, Planning & Forecasting (Warehousing). This distribution leadership role integrates business practices that incorporate planning, logistics, shipment execution, and provider collaboration to execute at the highest operating standards through data analytics and performance scorecards. This position is responsible for supply chain planning, forecasting and inventory management of the US warehouse network for Scotts branded products.  Activities will include oversight and contract management of multiple warehouses to ensure that appropriate space, labor and accessorial costs adequately support the company’s sales forecast. 

Detailed Description:

  • Support and manage supply chain optimization through a Product Movement Plan, working with sales, logistics and operations teams in our distribution network.

  • Participates in the S&OP and PLM (Enterprise Product Management) process and engages with all distribution stakeholders to drive the execution plan.

  • Manages all financial and service related metric performance within the Distribution warehouse team. Lead for all daily/weekly/monthly distribution and logistics reporting.

  • Develops planning processes to align and balance the supply plan with demand in order to provide input for operational storage and handling requirements  (short term and longer term horizons)

  • Centrally manages all contracts for distribution, including term lease agreements.

  • Aligns and leads through discussions on the strategic distribution roadmap, including the expansion of technology, financial return on investment, and the total appropriation request documentation on savings opportunities within the network.

  • Provides support for warehousing network changes, system installations, new product launches, and product transitions.

  • Drives warehouse effectiveness and efficiency improvements with data based analyses (metrics) and recommendations using quality management techniques. Develops specific performance objectives and performance measures for warehouse operations

Specific responsibilities:

  • Strategic Implementation: Drive, develop, and closely manage the implementation of the distribution business plan for the network to achieve facility goals and implement strategic improvements   Prepare, review, and/or analyze business reports, and use the information to identify operational improvements (e.g., production, quality, safety)

  • Network Optimization: Support distribution site selection and develop facility plans based on product demand and strategic requirements. Identify appropriate solutions that improve costs, efficiencies and operational consistency. Collaborate across departments to develop Capital Expenditure plans and to support initiatives. Execute approved plans meeting established timelines and budgetary constraints

  • Inventory Management: Manages inventory balances and capacity in the distribution network and overflow storage to support sales forecast and meet service objectives. Provides inventory management functionality to assess proper inventory levels, aligning on triggers where certain events could cause excess inventory. Works to exceed financial and operative inventory metrics. Monitors waste and develops ways to reduce it through a financial budget.

  • Business Systems: Support our distribution systems; serve as a key stakeholder and operational expert for the scoping and implementation of new systems.Gather requirements and business systems are customized for distribution team needs.Identify opportunities for systems improvement and enhancements and partner with cross functional teams to scope, build and implement.

  • Partnership: Performs other duties and/ or responsibilities as assigned.  Fosters a team environment and engages associates to drive superior performance. Works with production sites to ensure quality, demand, and production requirements are being met to customer expectations. Develops a proactive approach to people and engaging them on a regimented basis.  Serves as a liaison to the corporate warehouse execution team to align on storage, handling and accessorial spend aligned with the forecast. Manages, with our Business Development teams, the Supply Chain modeling to align the customer item fulfillment to our service strategy.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, supply chain management, operations, finance or other related degrees.

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of distribution and warehouse operations, Direct to Consumer operations or logistics experience.  

  • High degree of collaboration skills, as it relates to 3PL providers and internal network to help deliver outstanding customer service.

  • Strong business acumen, with a solid record of leading change and delivering strong financial and customer service results.

  • Analytical experience and knowledge of supply chain processes and procedures within a manufacturing CPG company and general knowledge of retail business a plus.

  • Expert knowledge of warehouse operations. SAP WM and/or Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) preferred

  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communications, organization, consulting, resource management and technology utilization skills.
