Job Description:

Exciting space exploration engineering company is seeking to hire an Attitude Control Engineer. As part of a hardworking team of spacecraft development engineers, you will support the systems engineering effort of the Attitude Control subsystem and its components on an advanced spaceflight vehicle. You will be responsible for the synthesis of algorithms, creation of flight software, derivation and development of subsystem requirements, performing analyses and trade studies, supporting the full lifecycle of attitude control design through flight completion.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply state-of-the-art techniques to attitude control algorithm development to accomplish sophisticated mission objectives
  • Support early feasibility studies, development of subsystem architecture, definition of subsystem and component trade space, and concept of operations
  • Derive and develop subsystem requirements, performing analyses and trades to validate requirements
  • Perform detailed vehicle performance analysis
  • Maintaining subsystem specification, budgets, and performance metrics
  • Collaborate closely with other subsystems and spacecraft systems engineers to support the development of subsystem boundaries, interfaces, and performance
  • Define, develop, and execute simulations and tools vital for analysis and verification of subsystem functionalities
  • Perform verification and testing, ensuring the subsystem aligns with its requirements
  • Support certification and flight readiness
  • Assist in real-time flight support during missions

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in aerospace engineering or related technical subject area
  • Experience in attitude control or GN&C algorithm development
  • Demonstrated experience in modeling attitude control components, and analyzing performance of attitude control subsystem or components via simulation, testing, or analytically
  • Familiarity with development of requirements, interfaces, trades and analyses for attitude control applications
  • Understand the relationship between attitude control, vehicle configuration, actuation, sensors, and automation
  • Knowledge in guidance, control, or navigation
  • Expertise in Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience in configuration management software such as Subversion, GIT, PVCS
  • Experienced in configuration and product data management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • M.S. or PhD in aerospace engineering or related technical subject area
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience in development of attitude control systems for aerospace vehicles
  • Experience in development, implementation, and testing of guidance, navigation, or control algorithms on aerospace vehicles
  • Knowledge of astrodynamics and orbit mechanics
  • Experience working with attitude control sensors and actuators
  • Experience in full lifecycle development of attitude control subsystem on spacecraft
  • Experience synthesizing and evaluating Monte Carlo simulations, hardware-in-the-loop, and software-in-the-loop testing
  • Experience in spaceflight attitude control hardware, software, operations, and/or ground support
  • Familiarity with requirements databases such as DOORS/DNG, Cameo
  • Experience with performing system safety analyses including Functional Hazard Assessments; Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analyses; and Fault Tree Analysis
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
