Wen Shugang Attended the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2023

From March 29 to 30, Wen Shugang, Chairman of China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., attended the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2023 upon invitation. Wen attended the opening ceremony, the sub-forum on "Building a Dynamic Modern Enterprise" and the Chinese and Foreign Business Representatives Meeting. He also attended the panel discussion on "The Future of Clean Energy" as a panelist.

In his speech, Wen Shugang stated that China Huaneng is one of the world's largest suppliers of clean energy, with the world's second largest installed capacity, accounting for about 10 percent of the country's total. In recent years, the company has advanced the building of a world-class enterprise, accelerated the green and low-carbon energy transition, practiced the ‘Synchronical Implementation of the Five Measures’ (putting equal emphasis on centralized and distributed mode, onshore and offshore development, local and outbound consumption, single energy source and hybrid energy sources, and single application and multiple application scenario), and witnessed leap-forward development of clean energy. China Huaneng has adhered to the leading role of science and technology with noticeable achievements in low-carbon technology. By deepening international energy cooperation and jointly building the green Belt and Road, China Huaneng has made its own contribution to the dual carbon goals.

Wen Shugang believed that with its promising prospect, clean energy could be further promoted by focusing on three aspects. First, countries should firmly propel the implementation of the clean energy strategic planning and relevant policies, so as to accelerate the development of clean energy. Second, jointly tackle key issues of generic technologies related to clean energy development, and make breakthroughs in key and core technologies of new energy, CCUS, energy storage and hydrogen energy, providing scientific and technological support for global energy transition. Third, remove non-technical barriers between regions and countries, so as to promote the global application of new clean energy technologies and contribute to global low-carbon energy development and green economic recovery. 

The theme of Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2023 is "An Uncertain World: Solidarity and Cooperation for Development amid Challenges". More than 2,000 guests from more than 50 countries and regions held full discussions on topics including the Chinese Path to Modernization, the Belt and Road Initiative and regional cooperation in Asia.
