Ling’ao NPP Phase-II project passed final acceptance based on tests of three-year operation-1

On September 2, more than 70 domestic well-known experts from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and other institutions carried out strict reviews on CGN’s Ling’ao NPP Phase-II project and agreed that the project reached up to or even beyond the expected targets involving safety and quality, project management, engineering construction, economic benefits and social benefits, etc., marking that the Ling’ao NPP Phase-II project passed completion acceptance based on the comprehensive tests concerning the safety, economics, and so on.

Completion acceptance is an essential milestone in comprehensive assessment whether an engineering construction project is in line with the design requirements and project quality, which plays an important role in summarization of construction experience. Completion acceptance related activities for a nuclear power plant are usually carried out within one to three years from the beginning of commercial operation. For example, Daya Bay NPP was completed for commercial operation in May, 1994 and passed final acceptance in December 1996; Ling’ao NPP Phase-I project was put into commercial operation in January 2003 and passed completion acceptance in July 2004.

Two units of Ling’ao NPP Phase-II have been running stably and reliably since initial commercial operation. Unit 1 had been in safe and stable operation since the outage for minor renovated repairs finished on October 31, 2010 until August 27, 2011 when the initial refueling overhaul began. Unit 2 also maintained full-power stable operation since August 7, 2011 when it was put into commercial operation till May 10, 2012 when the first overhaul began. During first fuel cycle, Units 1 and 2 have been running safely and stably for 301 days and 286 days respectively, with a favorable performance of zero-unplanned trips and shutdowns within the first fuel cycle. In 2013, the capability factor of Unit 1 and Unit 2 reached 90.11% and 88.95% respectively.
