CTG-built Souapiti dam in Guinea installs first generator’s stator-1

Souapiti Hydropower Complex in Guinea, built by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), announced that it has completed the installation of the stator of #1 generator on December 20 local time, laying a solid foundation for scheduled operation of the first unit in September 2020.

As a key component of the hydro-generator, each stator weighs 195 tons with an outer diameter of 9.5m and a height of 3.445m.

With a total installed capacity of 450MW and known as “The Three Gorges Project in West Africa”, Souapiti Hydropower Complex is the largest livelihood project in Guinea. The project teams have overcome various challenges since the construction started in April 2016, and achieved the preliminary impoundment target ahead of the schedule in August 2019.
