Three Gorges Reservoir reduces discharge flow to mitigate flood control pressure-1

The Three Gorges Reservoir, built and operated by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), closed its spillway on July 6, reducing the discharge flow from 35,000 to 31,000 cubic meters per second as part of its concerted efforts to relieve flood control pressure in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

The reduction was equivalent to retaining additional water almost three times the size of the Wuhan’s East Lake in one day.

In order to alleviate the flood control pressure in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River as well as effectively control the water level of the main river, the Three Gorges Reservoir has reduced its discharge flow by 4,000 cubic meters per second since July 6.

The initiative gives full play to the Three Gorges Project’s role in flood control and retention, ensuring safe flood retention and regulation in the region.
