CTG delivers 35,000 high-grade medical protective suits sourced from Brazil-1

An international flight carrying seven tons and 35,000 high-grade medical protective suits purchased by China Three Gorges Corp. (CTG) in Brazil arrived at Beijing Capital International Airport on February 18, from where it was transferred to Wuhan immediately.

The supplies, transported by a 17,000km flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil that stopped over at Madrid, Spain, is the largest single batch of medical supplies donated by CTG for the ongoing epidemic prevention and control efforts to Hubei province, where was hit hardest by the novel coronavirus.

The materials were purchased by CTG Brasil in Brazil in the South American country.

“We are very concerned about the epidemic situation in China every day. Before CTG requested us to purchase these supplies, we have already done many preparations,” said Zhao Jianqiang, Chairman and General Manager of CTG Brasil.

In early February, there was a shortage of supplies for epidemic prevention on the Brazilian market. In order to purchase supplies as soon as possible and ship them back to China, CTG Brasil immediately set up a task force and worked out procedures to ensure that each step can be completed on time.

As power generation player, the company’s business doesn’t involve the qualifications for exporting goods, making the export and transportation of these materials a complex issue.

To address the challenge, CTG Brasil set up an interdepartmental team that includes members from various functions such as supply chain, headquarters affairs and legal. Supplies were finally delivered thanks to the close cooperation between Chinese and Brazilian staff.

2019 is the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, and the Chinese and Brazilian governments had jointly held a range of major events during the year to demonstrate the fruits from cooperation between the two countries.

Currently, CTG Brasil operates 14 majority-owned hydropower stations, 3 joint holding stations and 11 minor-owned wind farms spread in 10 states in Brazil with an installed capacity of 8.28 million kW, making it the third largest power company in the country.
