CTG and EDP bolster Portugal in virus fight

China Three Gorges Corp (CTG) and EDP-Energias de Portugal S.A. (EDP) have announced on March 29 that they have delivered medical supplies including 50 ventilators, 200 monitor and also consumables and support materials to Portuguese Embassy in Beijing, which will be sent to Portugal as a joint donation to the Ministry of Health of Portugal.

“As the COVID-19 virus spreads and Portugal is facing a major outbreak, many friends from China have decided to support Portugal.” said the Portuguese Ambassador to China, H.E. Mr. José Augusto Duarte during the donation ceremony, “ but CTG and EDP were the first companies that showed up to offer us help.”

The supply comes at a time when the world's “stocks” of medical supplies have proved insufficient for high demand as the disease spreads around the world.

"EDP has donated 200,000 pieces of medical supplies to the hospitals in Wuhan, when China was undergoing a crucial moment of battling against the COVID-19 outbreak.” said Zhang Dingming, the Executive Vice President of CTG, as well as the Vice Chairman of Board of EDP. “CTG will never forget the help by EDP, and now it is our turn to return the favor."

With joint efforts by CTG and EDP, the medical equipment was procured and getting ready for delivering from 20 warehouses in China, and finally reached the embassy in just around 1 week.

“CTG is really concerned of EDP’s staffs as well as Portuguese people,” said Zhang. “We hope these medical supplies will support Portuguese hospitals soon, and to help Portugal to win the battle against the COVID-19.”

CTG, the operator of the world’s largest hydropower project -Three Gorges Project, is the largest single shareholder of EDP with a 21.47 percent of stake, as well as the strategic partner of EDP.
