CTG’s Xiluodu hydropower station achieves 400 billion kWh milestone-1

Xiluodu hydropower station, owned and operated by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), hit a major milestone on September 3 as its cumulative power generation exceeded 400 billion kWh.

The station is a major source of energy for the West-to-East Power Transmission Initiative as well as China’s second-largest hydropower station currently in operation.

Since its first power unit went into operation on July 15, 2013, the station has produced a total of 400 billion kWh of clean energy. To date, the station has helped save approximately123 million tons of standard coal and reduced emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide by 336 million, 80,000 and 76,000 tons respectively.

In addition to the power generation and emissions reduction, Xiluodu hydropower station also improves flood control, sediment retention, and navigation conditions in the lower reaches of its reservoir and dam.
