China Energy Offers Help to 30,000 Children with Congenital Heart Disease and Leukemia

A two-year-old boy with congenital heart disease from Gannan Prefecture in northwestern China’s Gansu Province successfully received a surgery at the General Hospital of the People’s Liberation Army in Beijing on August 18, thanks to the help of China Energy Foundation. So far, the foundation had offered help to 30,000 children with congenital heart disease and leukemia, for which it donated 600 million yuan. The program has prevented 30,000 families from falling back into poverty due to illness.

China Energy launched the program aimed at helping children with congenital heart disease and leukemia in 2011. Over the past decade, it has collaborated with 80 hospitals in 27 provinces to help poor children under 18 years old who suffered the two kinds of diseases around China. It has formed a charity assistance mode integrating active screening, medical training, and medical assistance, and a children assistance network led by China Energy Foundation and participated by hospitals, government departments, social organizations, and families.

Among charity projects launched by centrally administered state-owned enterprises in children health, the program under China Energy Foundation features the longest duration, widest coverage, and best curing results that helped the most children. It covers 2,218 counties in China’s 31 provincial-level regions, and the survival rate of children it helped reaches 100 percent. The program has been awarded prizes and honors such as the China Charity Award and one of the Top 10 Excellent Voluntary Service Brands of Centrally Administered State-Owned Enterprises.
