Production of the 1st Air-Cooled Generator Set of Wula’er Mountain Power Plant under North Company

On June 12, 2006, the first generator set of phase 3 project of Wula’er Mountain Power Plant of North United Power Co., Ltd. under the control of Huaneng completed a 168-hour test run and was transferred to production one month ahead of the scheduled deadline.

Phase 3 of the plant calls for installation of 2 air-cooled generator sets of 300,000KW each and concurrent installation of desulphurization devices. Construction started in July 2004, involving a total investment of 2.93 billion Yuan.

This is a pilot project of air-cooled generator sets of 300,000KW established by NDRC. To address the water shortage in arid region, direct air-cooling condenser is used to double the saving of water compared to similar wet-cooled generator sets. The completion and production of the project will play a positive role in easing the power shortage in west Inner Mongolia and promoting local economic growth.
