On July 16, Mr. Zhao Jianguo, Chairman of CSG visited the BOT project of Vinh Tan 1 thermal power plant in Vietnam. Mr. Zhao visited the construction site, listened to briefings on the project and met the staff. Mr. Zhao was satisfied with the progress and appreciated the hard work of the staff during the past 8 years. He commented that the Vinh Tan project was China’s biggest investment project in Vietnam and the first electric power BOT project of a Chinese company in Vietnam. The strategic goals of China’s “Belt and Road” initiative are crystal clear that CSG needs to work with all parties concerned and set a good example by building an excellent project in Vietnam. By doing so, CSG could become a model for the “Belt and Road” initiative and Chinese enterprises and create a good public image of itself and for other Chinese enterprises. Mr. Wang Jiuling, Vice President of CSG was in company with Mr. Zhao on the visit.

After hearing briefings on the project progress from the project company of Vinh Tan 1 and the EPC contractor, Mr. Zhao expressed his confidence in the future of the project and encouraged them to build the project into a first-class one. He set two goals for the project: firstly, the project should represent China’s advanced level in design, construction, equipment manufacturing and management; secondly, the project should help produce a batch of talented staff who are loyal to the country and have good professional skills and experience of working in foreign countries.

Mr. Zhao stressed that the implementation of the “Belt and Road” initiative should be based on concrete projects and CSG needed to bring its capital, advanced equipment, technology and standards to other countries through various projects. He also demanded that CSG should form a community of interests with “Belt and Road” countries and facilitate social and economic development in these countries.

When meeting the staff, Zhao expressed his hope that all staff should learn and work wholeheartedly here. He also stressed the importance of working closely with the Vietnamese staff as families to produce a result that is satisfactory to the investor, the Vietnamese government and the locals. Mr. Zhao also said that after completion of construction, a group of local employees would be recruited and sent to China for study and training and return to work in the plant. This would be another concrete action taken by CSG to fulfill its corporate social responsibility.

It is understood that the Vinh Tan project is located in Vinh Tan Commune, Tuy Phong County, Binh Thuan Province, Vietnam, with an installed capacity of 2×620MW. The construction will take 4 years and the franchise period is 25 years. The project will be transferred to the Vietnamese government free of charge when franchise period expires. It is estimated that by the end of 2018, Unit 1 will be put into operation while the whole plant will be in operation in the first half of 2019.

Representatives of the General Office, International Department, Planning Department, Finance Department of CSG and CSG International also participated in these activities.
