First Batch of Electric Power Equipment Arrives in Myanmar

On March 25, China and Myanmar held a delivery ceremony of the first batch of Chinese electric power equipment to assist Myanmar. The ceremony was co-hosted by Mr. Hong Liang, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, and Mr. U Khin Maug Soe, Minister of Myanmar Ministry of Electric Power. Delegates from Myanmar Electric Power and China Joint Disaster Relief Group participated in the ceremony. The donations were RMB 5 million worth of cables and conductors, which had been shipped to Naypydaw through the Muse port at the border of the two countries.

Last August, Myanmar was hit by the most severe flood in the past 40 years, so its electric power equipment was seriously damaged. Under the leadership of China National Energy Administration, eight Chinese corporations, including China South Power Grid (CSG), State Grid, China Huaneng Group, China Datang Corporation, State Power Investment Corporation, China Three Gorges Corporation, Power Construction Corporation and Yunnan Energy Investment Group, established a joint task group for the disaster relief. As the leader of the group, CSG was in charge of purchasing and delivering donations.

With the cooperation of all members, CSG actively communicated with Myanmar Ministry of Electric Power. According to Myanmar’s need for electric power equipment, the two sides reached an agreement on details of technical parameters, list of equipment, delivery time and place. On February 2, 2016, China National Energy Administration and Myanmar Ministry of Electric Power signed an agreement on electric power equipment assistance, stating that three batches of equipment worth of RMB 36 million yuan would be delivered by the end of June. At present, CSG has finished purchasing the rest of the electric materials and proceeded to production.
