CSG’s Board Chairman Li Qingkui proposes that the four power companies jointly develop a coordination mechanism, making proper plans in advance for power supply in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area

Xinjiang - The 8th Guangdong Hong Kong and Macau Power Industry Summit was held at Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with a theme of “new era, new energy, new development, new accomplishment”.

Li Qingkui, Board Chairman of China Southern Power Grid, together with He Yu, Chairman of China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), Richard Lancaster, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CLP Holdings Ltd., and Fu Jianguo, Chairman of the Macau Electricity Co. Ltd., attended the summit and delivered their remarks.

All parties agreed that the summit continues to play an important role in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau power cooperation, which has been deepened over the past eight years and delivers tangible results. They expressed optimism that they’re ready to bring forth even closer cooperation by fully supporting and contributing to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area by providing strong power supplies and injecting “green” new energy resources into this region.

Liu Qihong, Vice President of CSG, also attended the summit.

Mr. Li said that, “under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, CSG has worked with dedication to implement the decisions and plans made by the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, actively promoted quality development, and stands ready to deepen cooperation with power enterprises in the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau in the principle of mutual trust, mutual benefits, consultation, contribution and shared benefits”.

He added that, “by promoting the Greater Bay Area development and fully engaging in the Belt and Road Initiative, CSG can make greater contributions to building a community of shared destiny for mankind”.

Li Qingkui proposed three initiatives to deepen cooperation among power enterprises in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, saying, “first is to enhance communication among power enterprises and make new grounds for power cooperation, so as to go hand in hand with the development of the Greater Bay Area”.

He added that. “second is to jointly map out power development in the Greater Bay Area and develop a power trading market, so as to further grid interconnection, serve as a role model for boosting green energy transformation and provide strong power supply and the third initiative is to draw on each other’s strengths, work together to expand international businesses, so as to achieve mutual benefits and ‘win-win’ results”.

During the CEO dialogue session of the summit, Li Qingkui also proposed that the four power companies should jointly develop a coordination mechanism, making proper plans in advance for power supplies for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

Mr. He noted that energy enterprises were, “facing new opportunities such as clean development and open development. The four power enterprises need to further strengthen their cooperation to build the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area into a demonstration area for clean development, improve integrated energy services, and redouble their efforts to go global, so as to achieve greater results”.

Mr. Lancaster said that the energy industry, “should speed up efforts to reduce coal consumption and embrace digital and smart technology. Energy enterprises need to achieve all-round transformation by focusing on renewable energy, power demand management and data analysis”.

Mr. Fu Jianguo extended his heartfelt gratitude to CSG for its “comprehensive efforts to support and ensure the power supply in Macau when Typhoon Parhar hit the region, and restore its power supply to Macau as quickly as it can”.

Mr. Fu also expressed his hope that the four power enterprises would, “develop closer ties to inject new energy into green, efficient and sustainable development of the industry”.

Zhang Yansheng, Chief Researcher of China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE) and Guo Wanda, Executive Vice President of China Development Institute (CDI) also attended the summit and delivered remarks on China’s confidence in further opening up and deepening cooperation and on the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and energy companies’ opportunities and challenges.

Attendees of the summit also visited the wind power plant in Altay Prefecture and the sites of water conservancy project in the waterless region as well as new energy projects such as Xinjiang independent photovoltaic power generation facility.
