Zhu Jizhong, the fifth expert recruited by CSG from Alstom (USA), recently joined CSG Electric Power Research Institute (hereafter referred to as SEPRI).

The “Thousand Talents Plan” initiative, launched by the central government in light of Outline for National Medium and Long-term Talent Development Plan (2010-2020), seeks to establish innovation and entrepreneurship bases to attract about 2,000 high-level overseas talents back to China within five to ten years.

At the end of 2011, CSG was listed in the national innovation and entrepreneurship bases for the third batch of high level overseas talents. It aimed at bringing in, through SEPRI, high level overseas talents, particularly experts urgently needed in such core technologies as power grid security and stability, direct current transmission, and grid simulation, and in key areas like new energy and smart grid, to innovate and start up businesses within the company. In 2015, to better promote the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, CSG intensified its efforts to cultivate well educated and internationalized talents.

The previously four recruited experts of the “Thousand Talents Plan” are: Dong Xuzhu from Progress Energy Inc. (USA) in 2010, Wen An from National Grid plc (UK) in 2011, Fu Mingli from Alstom (UK) in 2012, and Dong Chaoyang from the University of Newcastle (Australia) in 2015. They belong respectively to the third, seventh, eighth, and tenth batch of talents brought back to China through the initiative.

In order to fully utilize the value of overseas talents and manage them well, CSG has been dedicated to establishing a sophisticated policy system, building up work teams, improving management and ensuring staff welfare. Five research teams are built, including the smart grid research team, the control and protection team, the power system analysis and computation team and two innovation teams led by Dong Chaoyang and Zhu Jizhong respectively. Since 2010, those overseas talents and their teams have achieved fruitful results in smart grid, new energy access, system analysis software development, etc., some of which hold a leading position in the world.

The upcoming years form a period of important strategic opportunities for CSG’s new round of development. CSG will further embrace badly needed talents and tap their potentials so as to push forward its reform, innovation and development.
