CSG Launches Deicing Campaigns to Ensure Power Supply During Chunyun

Given that 279 transmission lines in some areas of Guizhou, Yunnan and Guangxi provinces have been covered with ice by January 22, CSG has launched ice-melting and deicing campaigns to ensure the power supply to the transport during the Spring Festival.

At 15:00 on January 20, CSG released the blue alert against the freezing rain and snow disaster. As of 17:00 on January 21, there were 279 icing transmission lines of 10 kV-and-above within the service area of CSG, mainly in cities like Guiyang, Zunyi, Kaili, Duyun, Bijie, Tongren and Zhaotong.

Currently, CSG keeps the blue alert against the freezing rain and snow disaster. Guangdong Power Grid Company announced 3-level emergency response; while the EHV (Extra High Voltage) company and Guangxi, Yunnan and Guizhou Power grid companies all keep the blue alert. Guizhou Power Grid Company is planning to launch ice-melting and deicing campaigns to the 24 transmission lines whose icing ratio reaches 0.3 and above.

Guizhou Province has long been one of the main battlefields in anti-icing campaigns. It is predicted that from January 21 to 24, the minimum temperature all over the province may drop below zero. As of 17:00 on January 21, there were 213 icing transmission lines of 10 kV-and-above, among which there were two 500 kV lines, thirty-five 220 kV lines and seventeen 110 kV lines with a maximum ice thickness of 6.0 mm and a maximum icing ratio of 0.47. These icing transmission lines were mainly located in Guiyang, Zunyi, kaili, Duyun, Bijie, Tongren, and Zhaotong.

In the anti-icing campaigns, CSG gives full play to the scientific technologies by ensuring immediate functioning of the 280 icing monitoring and early warning devices and 90 AC/DC ice-melting devices for the power grids of Guizhou Province. As per the past icing scenarios of transmission lines, the Repair and Test Center selected Dushan County, Jianhe County, Anshun City and Anlong County as temporary airfields for patrol helicopters in case of emergencies in the anti-icing campaigns. Currently, the aircrafts are airworthy with the crew standby.

Guangxi Power Grid has organized a rescue team of 7,721 people, allocated special supplies and equipment including 402 generators in case of severe frost and icing weather that may occur at any moment.

The power grids have suffered great loss at the beginning of 2008 due to the serious frozen disaster. In order to avoid such disaster damaging the main grid of the West-East electricity transmission project again, EHV has taken various proactive measures to ensure power supply against the icing disasters, including implementing anti-icing renovation, installing icing monitoring system, building ice-melting devices, etc.
