GUANGZHOU - A Distributed Natural Gas Station, located within the National Supercomputing Center in Guangzhou - invested and built by China Southern Power Grid (CSG) - has been placed into operation with energy utilization efficiency already exceeding 70%.

This project is the largest underground distributed energy station in China and the first to use denitrification equipment.

The Distributed Natural Gas Station has earned high accolades at the 2016 China Distributed Energy Project Excellence Awards.

The full use of this station will significantly improve power supply reliability for the Supercomputing Center and is expected to ease the burden on power grids while serving as the new standard for efficient utilization of clean energies.

The hallmark of the National Supercomputing Center in Guangzhou is the integration of high-performance computing, mass data processing and information management services and is expected to be a technological leader in the social and economic development of Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province and South China.

The Natural Gas Distributed Generation Station is also a key energy project for Guangdong Province. As a support facility for the center, the project is located on the outer side of the outer ring road of the Guangzhou University Town more than 300 meters away from the Supercomputing Center.

Spanning an area of more than 4,700 square meters, the main facility has been constructed underground with arrangement and central control rooms, fire exits and chimneys located above ground.

The Natural Gas Station will be utilizing four sets of 4,300 kW gas-fired internal combustion engines in power generation.

During the first phase of the project, two sets of these engines will be placed into operation. The superheated fumes and water produced in the generation process will be cooled through four 4,117 kW lithium-bromide absorption chillers.

It is estimated that the entire project will save more than 14,800 tons of standard coal and reduce 66,400 tons of carbon dioxide emission and increase energy utilization efficiency to more than 70%.
