On October 12, after engineers from the Yunnan Power Grid completed three electric shocks of the two-circuit transmission lines of 220 kV in Puwen traction substation, all power transmission and transformation equipment of the External Power Supply Project of the Chinese section was placed into live-line operation, which marked the live-line working of the whole lines.
As a transnational railway significantly invested, constructed and jointly operated by China, the China-Laos Railway is directly connected with China's railway network, and is also the first BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) project of the Lao power grid.
The Chinese section and the Lao section of the External Power Supply Project were began simultaneously in December 2019.
With a dynamic investment of about 1.231 billion yuan in China's section, three switching stations of 220 kV, 35 lines of 220 kV and 1,587 towers have been newly built, and the transmission lines totaled 679.8 kilometers, which were completed on August 31 of this year and meet all live-line working requirements.
Twenty circuits of 115 kV lines and 11 substation bays of 115 kV have been newly built in the Lao section and 10 traction substations of electrified railways have been connected to the national grid of Laos … all of these were put into use on September 26 of this year.
