CTG completes substation installation at its first offshore wind project in Guangdong-1

China Three Gorges New Energy Co., Ltd., the new energy arm of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), successfully hoisted offshore substation on August 21 for Yangjiang Phase I, a 300MW offshore wind power project in Guangdong province.

Yangjiang Phase I, CTG's first offshore wind power project in Guangdong, is located 28 km west off the coast of Shaba, Yangxi county, Yangjiang. It is a 27-32 m underwater project featuring rough sea conditions, geological complexities and engineering challenges.

It has a gross weight of 2,692 tonnes and after optimization, it is 400 tonnes lighter than the original design, making it the lightest offshore substation with the same capacity in China.

The project has currently completed the engineering construction for 14 wind turbines and laid the submarine cables. The Land Integrated Control Center has started installing and commissioning equipment to accelerate the hoisting of the first wind turbine.

The team will expedite the installation and commissioning progress to lay a solid foundation for the first batch of units to connect to the grid and make a positive contribution to the CTG's strategy of becoming an industry leader in offshore wind development.
