The Achievements of China Power Industry on Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction showcased on 2015 Paris Climate Change Conference
Initiated by China Electricity Council, a booklet named The Achievements of China Power Industry on Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction were handed out at Chinese Pavilion during the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Paris, attracting attentions of conference delegates.
In the past decade, with constantly improved industrial structure, electric power industry of China kept a high-speed growth with its scale of power grid, annual power generation output and installed generating capacity started to top the world from 2009, 2010 and 2013 respectively, contributing significantly to the socioeconomic development of China. Along with the rapid growth, China power industry achieved remarkable success on energy efficiency and emission control and attached more importance to addressing the Climate Change. The coal consumption and energy efficiency of coal-fired power units as well as the average line loss of China had reached the advanced level of the world. The emissions of flue dust, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides of power plant in China had already reached their peaking levels and started to decrease constantly. Referenced with 2005 CO2 emissions of China, from 2006 to 2014, CO2 emissions reduced by power industry aggregated to around 6 billion tons by means of using more non-fossil energy, reducing coal consumption, lowering line loss, etc. and the CO2 emission intensity per kWh of electricity generation was decreased by 25%, which effectively slowed down the growth of power industry CO2 emissions.
